According to the New York Times, DNA may one day be used to "tag" consumer items. "A trace of synthetic human DNA embedded with a hidden code and then applied to a designer dress....[could] enable someone with the key to the code to detect counterfeits."

Strangely enough, the article did not credit Monica Lewinsky with originating the idea.
